I. Steel length and size

Steel length size is the most basic size of all kinds of steel, refers to the length, width, height, diameter, radius, inside diameter, outside diameter and wall thickness and so on.The legal units of measurement for steel length are meter (m), centimeter (cm), millimeter (mm).The inch is also used in current usage, but it is not a legal unit of measurement.

Range dimensions of steel
Stipulating the range size of steel is an effective measure to save material. A range ruler is one in which the length or length-by-width is not less than a certain size, or one in which the length or length-by-width is delivered within a range of dimensions. The production unit may produce and supply according to the size requirements.

Indefinite length (normal length)
Where the product size (length or width), in the standard set within the scope, and do not require fixed size called indefinite feet. The indefinite length is also called the normal length. Metal materials delivered in indefinite measure are acceptable as long as they are delivered within the specified length. For example, for ordinary round steel not greater than 25mm, the length of which is usually stipulated as 4 ~ 10m, all round steel within this range can be delivered.

3. Length

Cut to a fixed size as required by the order is called a sizing.When delivery is made to a fixed length, the metal material must be of the length specified by the buyer in the order contract.For example, if the contract states that the goods are delivered at a fixed length of 5m, the delivered materials must be 5m long. Any material shorter than or longer than 5m is disqualified.But in fact, the delivery cannot be all 5m long, so it is stipulated that positive deviation is allowed instead of negative deviation.

According to the fixed size of the order required to cut into the whole multiple is called multiple.The length of the metal must be an integral multiple of the length specified by the Buyer in the order contract (called the single foot) (plus the saw opening).For example,customer requires in the order contract that the single foot length is 2m, so the length is 4m when cut into double feet, 6m when cut into 3 times feet, and one or two saw mouths are added respectively.

The sawing amount is specified in the standard.When the size is delivered, only positive deviation is allowed, and no negative deviation is allowed.

5. Short feet

A short ruler whose length is less than the lower limit of the indefinite length specified in the standard, but not less than the minimum allowable length, is called a short ruler.For example, the water and gas pipe standard stipulates that 10% (by the number of pieces) 2-4m long short scale steel pipes are allowed in each batch.4m is the lower limit of the indefinite length, and the minimum allowable length is 2m.

6. Narrow feet

A narrow ruler is one whose width is less than the lower limit of the indefinite width specified in the standard, but not less than the narrowest width allowed.Attention must be paid to the scale and the narrowest scale specified in the relevant standards when delivering goods on narrow scales.

1. Length and dimension of section steel

1) The standard length of the rail is 12.5m and 25m.

2) The dimensions of round steel, wire rod and steel wire are calibrated with the number of mm (mm) of diameter D.

3) The dimension of square steel is calibrated with the number of mm (mm) of side length A.

4) The dimensions of hexagonal and octagonal steel are calibrated by the number of millimeters (mm) of the opposite side distance S.

5) The dimensions of flat steel are calibrated in millimeters (mm) of width B and thickness D.

6) The dimensions of I-steel and channel steel are calibrated by the number of mm (mm) of waist height h, leg width B and waist thickness D.

7) The dimensions of equal-edge Angle steel are calibrated by the number of mm (mm) of equal side width B and side thickness D.Dimensions of unequal angles are specified in millimeters (mm) of side widths B, B, and d.

8) The dimension of H-beam is calibrated with the number of mm (mm) of the web height H, the width of the wing plate B and the web thickness T1 and t2.

2. Length and dimension of steel plate and strip

1) Generally, it is calibrated by the number of mm (mm) of the thickness of steel plate D.The strip is calibrated in millimeters (mm) of the strip’s width B and thickness D.

2) single sheet steel plate has specified different sizes, such as hot rolled steel plate: 1mm thick steel plate, width 600× length 2000 mm;650 x 2000 mm;700 x 1420 mm;750 x 1500 mm;900 x 1800 mm;1000 x 2000 mm, etc.

3. Length and dimension of steel pipe

1) Generally, the steel tube’s outside diameter D, inside diameter and the number of mm (mm) of wall thickness S are calibrated.

2) Each steel tube has a specified size, such as seamless steel tube with an outside diameter of 50mm and 15 kinds of wall thickness of 2.5-10mm;In other words, there are 29 types with the same wall thickness of 5mm and the outside diameter of 32-195mm.For example, the wall of welded steel pipe with nominal diameter of 25mm has 3.25mm ordinary steel pipe and 4mm thick steel pipe.
