On September 27, the World Steel Association announced the list of finalists for the 12th “Steelie” Award. The “Steelie” award aims to commend member companies that have made outstanding contributions to the steel industry and have had an important impact on the steel industry in 2021. The “Steelie” award has six awards, namely Digital Communication Excellence Award, Annual Innovation Award, Sustainable Development Excellence Award, Life Cycle Evaluation Excellence Achievement Award, Education and Training Excellence Achievement Award, and Excellent Communication Excellence Achievement Award.
China Baowu Iron and Steel Industry’s waste heat cascade comprehensive utilization method and its key technology development and application projects, and Hegang’s intelligent “unmanned” stockyard were nominated for the Sustainable Development Outstanding Achievement Award. At the same time, HBIS Online Craftsman Innovation Learning Platform was nominated for the Education and Training Excellence Award.
POSCO was nominated for 5 awards. Among them, POSCO’s “Gigabit Steel” special automotive steel sheet roll stamping technology was nominated for the annual innovation award, and the negative-emission slag recycling technology was nominated for the Sustainable Development Excellence Award.
Tata Steel Group was nominated for 4 awards. Among them, Tata Steel used LCA (Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Assessment) to develop India’s first EU eco-label type 1 steel bar shortlisted for Life Cycle Assessment Excellence Achievement Award nomination. In addition, Tata Steel Europe’s “Zero Carbon Logistics” system was nominated for the Sustainability Excellence Award.
The World Steel Association stated that the selection process of the shortlist varies from award to award. Generally speaking, the shortlist is submitted to the relevant committee for the selection of the project, and the panel of experts conducts the selection. The final list of winners will be announced on October 13.
